This report is based on the following requirement - <br />Introduction<br />The case study is sourced from Deresky (2011), for students who have purchased the Cullen and Parboteaah (2011) textbook. <br />Tthe Case study is in the Resources section and on the Course Activity section :‘Australia and New Zealand : doing business with Indonesia’ Deresky (2011, pp. 133–6). <br />Some of the case questions have been adapted for this specific assignment. All students will find the relevant information in chapters in their textbooks, USQ study books and selected readings to be able to analyse the case study. You are required to find additional sources such as journal articles to substantiate your arguments. <br />You will be writing an essay with headings (see the Communications skills handbook). The headings are provided in your marking sheet. <br />Length: 2,800 to 3000 words<br />Assignment 1 objectives<br />Apply cultural models such as Hofstede to diagnose, understand and appreciate the impact of cultural differences on management processes.<br />Understand the national and institutional contexts and how they affect the business environment.<br />Understand the content of the participation strategies such as foreign direct investment and be able to analyse the strategy based on the strengths and weaknesses of the approach and the needs of a multinational company. <br />Appreciate the unique problems in human resource management faced by managers in alliance organizations.
<br />Study the information in the case study carefully as cases do not always present information in simple ways. You would need to clarify your assumptions when you formulate your answers. Present a critical analysis and do not merely repeat the information in the case. Do NOT copy descriptions of national culture from Hofstede’s website for Assignment 1, but use a variety of sources to summarise and critique his approach.<br />Section 2 – Institutional context<br />Complete the table that will be placed on the course site, and provide a short summary of the basic economic and national differences between the 3 countries that can have implications for Australian companies in Indonesia. Do not merely list all possible strategies, but focus on three viable entry strategies for the specific types of businesses. Note two business opportunities for Australian companies for foreign direct investment in Indonesia. (See Module2 and its readings; about 600 words.)<br />Section 4 – Strategic alliances<br />Review the website of Du Pont or Shell (noted in Module 3) for that company’s operation in Indonesia and Australia.
